GCASA County Championships Report – Sessions 2 and 3
Saturday 7th February saw the start of the 2015 GCASA County Championships at GL1 and TSC were well represented throughout. Our first swimmer was Sebastien Barley, competing in the 400m IM. Sebastien finished in a time of 7:05.56 – a 22 second PB – and later also finished 4th in the 50m Butterfly, a position matched by Eve Heeley in her 50m Butterfly race.
Oli Osborne has taken giant strides this season and he recorded TSC's first regional time of the championships in the 50m Butterfly, where he finished in 34.33 (Oli's previous PB was 37.04), finishing fourth. Will Gibney also got his first regional time of the season in the 50m Butterfly – 26.64 (PB was previously 27.12). Will also qualified for the final in Session 3 and its great to see a senior swimmer who still possesses the burning desire to succeed in the pool.
Hannah Church concluded the session by securing her regional time in the 50m Butterfly with a time of 30.85 (PB was previously 31.16) and in the process won TSC's first gold medal. Hannah has worked extremely hard this season, especially in the Arena League, where she competed in multiple races, and her success is well-deserved.
Other TSC swimmers in this session were Grace Nolan, Cora Brady, Jordan Barnes, Chris Graffin, Becky Church and Jess Lane, who all impressed with their technique and speed.
Overall, in session 2, TSC swimmers swam 14 Races, recorded nine PBs, three regional times, one gold medal and one final place. There were two unfortunate DQs, but a clear and determined hunger in the performances of all our swimmers!
The 50m Butterfly final kicked off session 3 and Will Gibney secured 8th place, impressively finishing under 27.00 (26.94).
Jack Beazer was the first TSC swimmer in this session's heats, and in the 50m Freestyle he recorded a PB of 37.70. Oli Osborne PB'd on a previously held regional time in the 50m Freestyle, finishing on 29.74 (previous PB was 30.48), placing 6th. Highlight of the session was arguably Chris Graffin and Josh O'Neill, side-by-side in lanes three and four, battling hard against each other and finishing with a draw – both recording a PB of 26.56.
In the girls 50m Freestyle, Hannah Church (28.81) and Jess Lane (29.24) finished in the top three medal places, Hannah securing silver and Jess bagging a well-deserved bronze.
Sebastien Barley finished fourth again, this time in the 50m Backstroke, with a time of 40.67.
Grace Nolan managed her first county place finish in the 50m Backstroke (45.86), finishing 8th. The day ended with Eve Heeley, another youngster making rapid progress, climbing on to the winners podium to collect a bronze medal for her 38.42 finish in the 50m Backstroke.
Other TSC swimmers in this session were Harry Lane, Jordan Barnes, Cora Brady, Tonicha Taylor, Izzy Quinn, Sophie O'Neill, Becky Church and Ashleigh Holton.
